3-D CORONA TREATMENT

Some materials, polyolefin in particular, but also others, have a difficult-to-wet surface, and, consequently, the following treatments

cannot give good results.
From a macroscopic viewpoint, the materials behaving in this way have a surface tension lower than the liquid they receive. The drops of liquid are arranged in the pattern shown in figure 1. If the surface tension of the solid is increased until it exceeds that of the liquid, the drops are retained by the surface and are arranged in the pattern shown in figure 2 wetting it. A good result is obtained in this way.
The Corona treatment does not heat, deform or make the product opaque.

Technically, a Corona Treatment will increase surface tension .
The Corona Treatment exploits the special properties of Corona Discharge, featuring high voltage, and electrical insulation between electrode and counter-electrode. In this way, a discharge without an electric arc is obtained, which generates a strongly ionised air flow which polarises the molecules of the treatment surface. So an affinity is thus created with the polar groups contained in inks, paints and glues, which adhere to the surface. A Corona treatment can be effected on thin film (2D Corona) or on a three dimensional object (3D Corona). SIMONI produces 3D Corona systems.

These are the other important applications of the 3D Corona treatment:
CLEANING OF SURFACES (from grease deposits)
EFFICIENCY STATUS TESTS OF PLASTIC PIPES AND TANKS (detection of microcracks in the material).

There are two types of 3D Corona treatment technologies:
