BRISTLES

Technical characteristics

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

There are several building techniques for the industrial brushes. So we can have:

PUNCHED BRUSHES
STRIP BRUSHES
RING BRUSHES
TWISTED BRUSHES

The 'families' are very different from each other, both for the constitution of the product and for the use we can do of it.
However all the brushes have the common feature to be made up of BRISTLE (or WIRE if the material is metal). The bristle is mounted onto a backing. The ends of the bristles form the brushing surface. So the peculiar characteristic of the brush is to be made of a great number of elements that together behave like a single surface.
The bristle can be:

SYNTHETIC
METALLIC (ferrous and nonferrous)
NATURAL (animal and vegetable)

The choice of the bristle depends on the technical characteristics that the brush must have.
Table 0.1 shows the various kinds of bristle and the main uses for which they are mostly suitable.
